Where We "Do School"

One reason we bought this particular home (back in March) was because the garage had been converted into a LARGE room! We are blessed to be able to use this room as our school room, toy storage room and (eventually) for food storage.

Let me give you a tour:
This is the room as you walk in from the Kitchen and Laundry rooms.
This is the room from another angle. The white desk (with the laptop on it) is hubby's part of the desk.
Here is where we do art or other group work. The file boxes are where we store completed work.
To the right is the toy closet. The cabinets hold school supplies for art, history and other basic supplies. The rolling cart holds manipulatives for reading and math as well as puzzles on top. The table is our puzzle (and WikiStick) table. You can also see our posters from We Choose Virtues.
Bookshelves (from IKEA)
Whiteboard for reading/spelling. Corkboard with pledge, skip-counting, virtue card and religion chart.
World Map and letter chart for All About Reading (pre-level 1)
Workboxes (from IKEA)
Unicorn's desk (that she shares with daddy)
My desk. It has a pull-out shelf that Monkey and Ladybug like to use to do their work.

Feel free to leave a comment or ask questions.

Workbox Wednesday

We are not doing workboxes today. Today we are taking advantage of the flexibility that homeschooling allows us. The children will be with Grandma and Papa today while Hubby and I go car shopping. Not at all what I had planned for the day but it is what has to be done.

Please keep linking up...I LOVE seeing what everyone is doing!!

Workbox Wednesday

Workbox Wednesday
This week I am SUPPOSED to share Monkey's PK workboxes, however, Monkey is taking a break. He will start back with {BFIAR} after Thanksgiving when the girls take a bit of a break.

Ladybug is also on a LIGHT schedule as her main focus is NaNoWriMo. She already has 400+ words in her story. She is also continuing with Ooka Island, First Start Reading (Book B) and Math Mammoth (1st Grade).

Yep, Unicorn's schedule is LIGHT as well. She is writing a Novel for NaNoWriMo and already has almost 3,000 words. She is also continuing Life of Fred: Cats, Teaching Textbooks 4 and RosettaStone Latin.

As a family we are working on decluttering for our upcoming move, memorizing the Articles of Faith and virtues from We Choose Virtues and skip counting by 2's and 3's, reading the Friend and working through The Mystery of History (this week is the Phoenicians, Israel Divides and Elijah). We are also using a few products that we will be reviewing soon (some really fun stuff)!

Hopefully next week I will have some pictures for you!

Then Unicorn did her Math (Life of Fred: Cats and Teaching Textbooks 4), Latin (RosettaStone) and worked on her NaNoWriMo story for Writing. She is also reading a book that we are reviewing soon.

Workbox Wednesday ~ Link Up Your Workboxes

Workbox Wednesday

This week I am sharing Ladybug's K/1 workboxes!
Photobucket

Today I was actually able to snap some photos as she worked.

Note: {I have to pick my battles with her so I usually let her choose WHEN during the day she wants to do her work. Also, her math and writing papers are sloppy but the PURPOSE of the paper was not number formation or how neatly she can color. If the PURPOSE is met then I try to let the other stuff slide for now. She is only 5 and is ahead of most of her peers so I try not to push things with her and try to let her have a little fun.}

In the first picture she is playing Ooka Island (look for a review coming next week).
The next two pictures are from First Start Reading and are the Word Mastery Review pages at the end of Book A (look for a review coming very soon).
The 4th picture is page 51 (sums with 9) of 1st grade Math Mammoth (I am not reviewing it but my Crew Mates are).
The last picture is from WriteShop Book A and the focus is punctuation.

Workbox Wednesday ~ Link-up

Workbox Wednesday
Hubby is on Fall Break (he's a High School Math teacher) this week so we are spending the week getting "caught up".  Here is what we are doing instead of workboxes this week:

Monday we did laundry and straightened up the garage.

Tuesday I left the kids with Hubby and went to visit with a couple friends that I haven't seen for a couple of years.

Today we are house hunting.

Tomorrow I will be writing reviews and the kiddos will be using some of the products we are reviewing.

Friday is currently unplanned.

Saturday is our 7th wedding anniversary! To start the day we will be participating in our Church service project (cleaning our city streets). Then, after showers and breakfast, we will drop the kids off at Grandma's house and head to the Mesa Temple and then to Texas Roadhouse for dinner.

When you link-up please grab a button and/or link back here. Thank you!

Workbox Wednesday

Workbox Wednesday

This week I am featuring Ladybug's Workboxes. She is in K/1! We have a LOT of reviews coming up so this week and next we will be focusing on review products and our family studies.

Photobucket

After, reading the Friend and memorizing the 9th Article of Faith (Religion), learning to be Content and Obedient (Virtues) and learning about Ramses II (History), Ladybug will help me review the following products:

Ooka Island and First Start Reading Lesson 18 (reading words as, has, is, his and some sentences). Since she is doing so well in math and helping me review to Reading products at the same time, she is taking a week off of Math.

Guideline: Please grab a Button or link back here! Thanks!

Workbox Wednesday

*AND*

Chestnut Grove Academy

Have you checked out Chestnut Grove Academy's blog?
If not, shame on you! ;) Jen has a great blog!
I don't want to give away too much but,
She has giveaways and does reviews.
Also, we are putting together a Blog Hop for Thursdays (stay tuned)!

Normally I alternate between Preschool, K/1 and 6th Grade workboxes but, this week we are doing something different. That is why we homeschool, right? So we can mix it up when we want/need to? I haven't been feeling well the past month or so and our home is starting to look/feel like mom has been on vacation. Then, on Saturday, I was having trouble planning our week and couldn't figure out why. I have 9 reviews and a giveaway coming up in October and was starting to feel overwhelmed. So, I decided that we will only be doing Religion, History, items that are up for review AND a week of cooking and cleaning! Also, Unicorn will continue with Math (since this is her weakness).

Photobucket

Photobucket

1. Religion: Reading the Friend as a family
2.
3. History: The Mystery of History ~ Joshua, Jericho and Rahab
4. Math: Life of Fred ~ Butterflies Ch. 12
5. Literature: Intro. to Lit. ~ Unit 1
6. Latin ~ Lesson 6A
7. Scruble Cube
8. Always Ice Cream

Guidelines: Please Grab a Button (or link back here). Also, it would be AWESOME if you would visit my co-host and as many other links as you can. I love seeing everyone's workboxes!

Workbox Wednesday ~ Link-up

Workbox Wednesday

Each Wednesday I post what we have in our Workboxes. So I don't overwhelm myself I alternate each week with Preschool, K/1st and 6th grade workboxes.

This week I am featuring Monkey's Preschool Workboxes:

Photobucket

After joining the family for Religion (reading the Friend) and doing Chores, Monkey will start his workboxes.
1. {BFIAR}: Caps for Sale. We will practice balancing things on our heads as we walk around the room.
2. Phonics: The letter "J" (from Teach Me Joy's Animal Play Curriculum).
3. Math: The number "5" (from Confessions of a Homeschooler's Math Printables).
4. Science/Writing: J for Jellyfish (from Homeschool Creations Ocean Preschool Pack).

Now it is your turn! Grab a Button (or link back here) and Share your Workboxes! As this is my ONLY Guideline, I will be deleting links that do not have a button or a link back to this post. Thank you!
