Our Schedule ~ 2013

This years we've had to change our schedule a bit as Ladybug has decided to attend a near-by Charter School and Unicorn is attending early-morning Seminary through our Church. We used to get up when ever and then just go through our daily routine but now, some things have to happen at a certain time of the day. Here is what our schedule looks like as of right now:

Dev. = Devotional
ALA = Ladybug's Charter School
FT/DO L = Free Time or Drop Off Ladybug
FT/PU L = Free Time or Pick Up Ladybug
HW/FT = Homework then Free Time

Doctors, School and a Broken Pipe...Oh My!

This month has been much busier than I am used to. I have had 5 (yes, FIVE) doctor appointments since January 2nd and I have 1 more on Monday and then out-patient surgery on Wednesday. I am hoping that after the surgery things will slow back down to a normal pace and we can get back into our school routine.

We have also started our new curriculum and I have managed to snap a few photos (Yay Me)! With this new curriculum we are doing a month of history, then a month of geography and then a month of science on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Friday we do Literature and either Art or Music. Monday are a free day (used for catch-up, field trips, or one-on-one time with my oldest). These subjects are done as a family in the afternoons. Math, Reading, Spelling and other subjects are done in the morning individually.

So far we have had 6 History lessons and 1 Literature and 1 Art Lesson (with all the doctor appointments we are 1 lesson behind in Lit and Art). We have learned about how history is His Story, studied Creation, started our timeline, and created our notebooks. In Literature we are studying Fairy Tales and the lessons they teach us. In Art we are focusing on the Creation and how God is the Ultimate Creator and that because we are made in him image we are also creative beings. Additionally, Monkey and Ladybug do reading and spelling each day and Unicorn is learning to cook and sew.

On another note, we had some UNUSUALLY COLD weather here. Normally, this time of year, we have Highs around 65 and Lows around 40. Last week we had Highs around 40 and Lows around 20! Now, in other parts of the country, this wouldn't be a problem but, here in the Phoenix, Arizona area this is not good! Our pipes are only buried 3-6 inches below ground...not good when you have extended periods of freezing temps. We were pretty lucky, we only had ONE pipe burst and it was an external, above-ground pipe. It was a pretty easy fix. Needless to say, I am grateful for the 75 degree high we had today!

A Day in the Life...

of Unicorn, Ladybug and Monkey!

We don't have a set schedule but here is our routine. We get started with our family items once everyone is awake (generally around 7...those that wake early play quietly in their rooms, quietly start on their individual work OR they end up doing chores if they are not quiet)!

PE (it is HOT here most of the year so PE is done as early as possible)
Chores
Religion
Workboxes
Lunch
Finish Workboxes (if necessary)
Quiet Time
Play Time
Baths
Dinner
TV Time
Bed Time (Monkey@6:15, Ladybug@6:45, Unicorn@7:30...Yes their times are early but they wake up between 6-7 every morning no matter what time they go to bed)!

7:00~Rise and Shine (Morning Routine)

7:30~Breakfast as a Family (Read Scriptures, Family Prayer, Memorization & Read Aloud)

8:00~Mommy, Ladybug & Monkey have Preschool while Unicorn works independently (Religion, Math, Social Studies/English/Science/Art/Music, Silent Reading & Chores)

11:00~Lunch as a Family

12:00~Quite Time for Ladybug, Nap for Monkey and Mom works with Unicorn (if needed and then mom goes to work)on Typing, Latin & Writing and anything not finished in the morning

2:00~Free Time for Unicorn and Ladybug

3:00~Free Time for all

4:00~Afternoon Routine

5:00~Dinner

5:30~Evening Routine and Bed (Monkey in bed by 6, Ladybug by 6:30 and Unicorn by 7:30)

*I am very lucky that Unicorn learns best by herself. She comes to me when she needs help and we review what she has been learning as part of her bedtime routine.

I have found that my children respond best to a consistent routine. So we pretty much school Monday - Friday. Fridays are usually a light day of work, usually religion and math, and then we do something fun (park, field trip, grandma's house etc.)
