Homeschool Mother's Journal ~ June 10, 2011 (Summer Edition)

The Homeschool Mother's Journal
In my life this week…it has been crazy. I had a melt-down (you know the kind where you wonder if you are REALLY supposed to be homeschooling). After awhile my 5 year old came to me and said, "I didn't know you could do that (cry)." It made me wonder when the last time it was that my children saw me cry. I think it is a good thing because we were able to have a discussion about feelings and that EVERYONE has them (even moms) and that even adult's feelings can get hurt.
In our homeschool this week…again it has been rough. I have pretty much decided that, other than religion and a fun unit, we are going to take the rest of the month off. I think we need a bit of a break. I would take it off completely but if they don't have some sort of routine they get a little nuts! :)
Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…follow your children's lead. If they are acting out there is a reason and the beauty of homeschooling is that you can take breaks when needed  and adjust things to best suit your family's needs!
I am inspired by…all of you and your journals. I may not always comment but I am usually lurking nearby and it helps me know that you are all there and we are all here for each other.
Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…we are working on scraping some $$ together to take a little trip to Flagstaff. I hope we can pull it off...it would be nice to go to some cooler weather and to relax a little.
My favorite thing this week was…learning how to make a blog button!
Things I’m working on…how to make my blog button an actual button!
I’m reading…the Harry Potter series.
I’m praying for…my sister's house to sell quickly. She has to move for her job and they really need to sell their house!

  1. Oh, I have so been where you are.  You are in my prayers.  I agree the best thing about homeschooling in the ability to step back, take breaks and generally have the time to get it just the way it should be.

  3. I also had a breakdown over homeschooling and made a drastic move. I enrolled my kids in public school! After 2 weeks I pulled them out. Boy what an eye opener! We def. all need breaks and good for you for realizing now was the right time. My kids also thrive on routine and that has been a tough change for me this year. While I do much better with routine, often feel trapped by it. So how did you learn to make your own blog button? I will be praying for your sister as well.

  4. Oh, no! I hope next week goes smoother! I think we all have challenging weeks...but those weeks help us to re-evaluate our homeschooling and make it that much better! Hang in there! Enjoy some time off! Stopping by from THMJ!
