When I was a teacher I hated the words "Rainy Day Schedule" because it meant that I wouldn't get lunch and the kids wouldn't get recess and we wouldn't have a break from each other. Now, as a homeschooling mama, the words aren't so scary. Instead of feeling trapped inside, we actually went out and played in the rain. The kids had a great time. It was a nice change of pace since it has been 110+ all summer long. The rain cooled us off to about 74 degrees. It was wonderful!
Michelle,
ReplyDeleteDon't you love the freedom to do what you love (teach) with who you love (your children) and not have to worry about snow days/rain days/recess and early dismissals! It would infuriate me as a teacher and parent when our district would not allow children outside to play so long as there was snow on the ground. It is a "liability". If it was drizzling teachers at my girl's old school would keep their kids in. When I was teaching my rain boots were kept in school at the door to the playground. A little rain never hurt us!
I am so glad that my girls can ride their bikes, play in the rain, eat when they are hungry and go to the bathroom without permission. Even now, 8 months into our homeschooling adventure, my youngest still finds herself raising her hand!
Enjoy the puddles!
I love it!! It's been so hot here too, so I don't blame you one bit for heading out when it got a bit cooler (even if it was raining!!)
