Homeschool Mother's Journal ~ Week 7

The Homeschool Mother's Journal

In my life this week...I have been trying to go to bed earlier and failing!

In our homeschool this week...we have been having school outside. The weather is perfect and hubby got the porch cleaned off for us!

Places we're going and people we're seeing...Saturday the girls and I will be attending a "Lemonade Luncheon" celebrating the Relief Society "birthday."

My favorite thing this week was...getting a delivery from UPS with our Nature Journals inside!

What's working/not working for us...still working on our schedule/routine. Hopefully I will get it figured out before we start our next school year.

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have...How do you document your child's work/accomplishments? I live in a state that doesn't require anything except to fill out a form stating that you are homeschooling and that you will teach reading, writing, math, science and social studies. I document on this blog but am wondering if I should do some sort of portfolio too?

A photo, video, link, or quote to share...Unicorn's finished bed!

  1. That is a sweet bed! I have issues going to bed on time too, which is why I am commenting at 12:24 am. I wish you well with your scheduling.

  2. I wish I was getting to bed earlier, too!! I'm working on it.... in bed 30 minutes earlier last night and then the kiddos slept in this AM, YAY!!

I wonder the same things about how much documentation to make and what to save. We will be registering with the state this year so maybe I'll find out more??? BUt I really want to be prepared in case the state changes their standards or we move to a state with more requirements!

Thanks for stopping by! I hear you about wanting to be prepared for the "in case" and "what if" scenarios! I kind of wish our state required SOMETHING so that I would HAVE to do something...maybe I would be more motivated and decisive. ;)

  5. I keep a accordian folder of sample work and brochures, ticket stubs, and library reciepts as "evidence" that we are doing what we said we are for school. I also keep a bound journal where I write out what we do each day to help with documentation. When we lived in another state this was the required documentation. In our current state nothing is required, but we kep with the old documenation system because we like it.

  6. Love the loft bed- how fun!!!

I use www.homeschooltracker.com to track my kid's stuff. It is an excellent program and affordable. Once you purchase it, all updates are free thereafter.

  7. I'm a late bed goer as well. Trying to break the habit. I thought getting older would naturally break me of the habit but apparently not. Love the bed! We keep daily records of what we do. I like the fact that I can go back and see what we've read this year and when we started working on a subject or new curriculum.

Thanks for the ideas Miss Nirvana! I am leaning towards a portfolio/journal that will include sample work and print outs from the blog. Thanks again!

Thanks Kris! Part of my problem with going to bed earlier is that hubby doesn't get home from work until 10 or so and that is our only time to talk w/o kids around! Oh well, I will keep trying! Oh...and thanks for the documentation tips too! :)

  15. What a beautiful bed. I must admit that I don't really keep much documentation until they hit high school. Then I keep a transcript on the computer. I think you should keep a file or a notebook or scrapbook if YOU want one, but if you're just doing it because you think you ought to, don't bother.
