Homeschool Mother's Journal ~ Week 8

The Homeschool Mother's Journal

In my life this week...I have been worrying. Worried that we don't have enough food storage and emergency supplies, worried about the pain my sister has been having this week, worried about the safety of the neighborhood (an 80 year-old woman was shot and killed in her home just a few blocks from my house), ok...I have just been worried this week!

In our homeschool this week...I have been planning for next year. We are almost finished with our current year and we don't take many breaks...we will start our new year just a few weeks after this one ends!

Places we're going and people we're seeing...the girls are going to see "Fiddler on the Roof" the musical with hubby, Grandma and Papa on Saturday!

My favorite thing this week was...spending TONS of time outdoors with my children. The weather has been amazing this week. Spring doesn't last long in this part of AZ so we are taking advantage of it while we can...SUMMER will be here in a few weeks (if not days...we are supposed to hit 100 this weekend)!

What's working/not working for us...everything is working fine. Ok...other than that elusive schedule/routine!

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have...Do you do a quiet time? If so, how long does it last and what activities are your children allowed to do during that time?

A photo, video, link, or quote to share...first a link (about the woman murdered down the street) and then so we don't end on a bad note a link to something fun:

  3. I have quiet time first thing in the morning. I lights out with the girls at 8:30p every night, and I get up 4-6am. My quiet time is while they sleep. So I get any where from 1-4 1/2 hours depending on when I get up and how long the girls sleep.

Thanks for sharing Becca! Do your children have a quiet time? Glad you stopped by!

  5. I have quiet time first thing in the morning, too. I try to get up around 6 so I get a couple hours in before the kids get up. I'm trying to get them to have a quiet time, too, but so far that hasn't worked well. My kids are 8 and 9. I'd love for them to develop the habit of being quiet and listening to God first thing in the morning.

  6. We do a 2 hour quiet time. Our son is allowed to read or nap. We take it in late afternoon. http://www.nirvanahomeschooling.blogspot.com/

  7. I have quiet time in the morning for myself because I get up before the kids. My kids do not like a lot of noise although they can sure make some sometime. When I get them focused on their work though, there is some quiet time immersed throughout our day.

  9. I can understand your worry. We don't have a specific quiet time but when we do have one its usually for the kids to read or play quietly in their rooms.

Thanks for stopping by! Ours is in the afternoon too! My kids don't nap anymore...but they play or read quietly. I am thinking about changing it so they can only read or rest but I don't think it will go over very well!

  16. I understand the tendency to worry- this is a scary world! I worry as well. Our neighborhood is okay, but not fantastic.
We are not great with schedules either, so you're not alone on that one. We are planning some summer lessons/school work, but not too much as we enjoy a lot of time at the pool. But the kids do get bored, so we have to have something to do.
